Police are detailing the findings of an elderly couple who found a woman and two children dead this morning.
The couple also live at the address where the homicide occurred.
Police were called to a residential address in Manukau City's Totara Heights suburb this morning after ambulance officers discovered the bodies at around 7:15am today.
On arrival ambulance officers had found three bodies and one man with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital and is undergoing surgery this afternoon. Police hope to question him about the homicide late this afternoon.
The bodies of the woman and two children remain at the home and police say they will be taken for postmortem examination later today.
Residents living in the area of where the triple homicide occurred were this morning told to remain home until they had been questioned by police.
Police have secured a crime scene around the home where the bodies were found. Forensic investigators are combing the house for evidence.
Police say the bodies show a number of "injuries" and there are several possible weapons at the home which are being examined for forensic evidence.
Police are not yet saying how the three were killed.
