Tainui Hits Back - The Tainui Trust Board is defending its decision to buy the naming rights to the new Waikato Sports Stadium. The tribe’s $7 million deal includes the condition that local Maori will make up 20 percent of those employed during events at the stadium. Mauri Pacific MP and Tainui member Tukoroirangi Morgan says the money would have been better spent on housing. But Tainui says before pointing his finger at the tribe’s trust board Mr Morgan should look at his own responsibilities. The Tainui Trust Board says its decision is a calculated one and is wise and will improve employment opportunities for the tribe’s people.
Ebola in Germany - Panic in Germany after fears the deadly Ebola virus maybe in the country. A 40 year old television cameraman is lying in a sterile plastic tent and being treated by medical staff wearing sealed clothing. The cameraman earlier this week returned with friends from west Africa. Concerns are that a new plague could be sparked as the cameraman returned to Germany onboard a major airline.
Escapees Caught - Two men will make an appearance in court today after a brief escape from police custody in Tokoroa. The 18 and 27 year old were from a seven strong party being escorted to the Tokoroa Police Station when they burst from the vehicle at about 10:45pm yesterday. Police cordoned off an area of Tokoroa and the escapees were captured one hour later.
