Environmental Management System
Auckland City's Planning and Regulatory Committee has endorsed a policy which provides a framework for a council-wide environmental management system.
Chairperson of the Planning and Regulatory Committee, Councillor Juliet Yates, says this is a significant step forward for her committee's environmental aims, and, eventually, for Council's commitment to environmental best practice.
"Many organisations throughout the country, including various councils, are committed to environmental management systems.
"Groups within Council will have to develop an environmental plan for projects, outlining possible impacts and actions, so they can improve on current practice in environmental management." Development of the system has been included in the City Planning budget for 1999/2000 and the committee will expect an annual environmental report.
