Committee encourages development of skateboard bowls

A young Avondale boy's petition requesting a skateboard bowl for the area has received a favourable response from Auckland City’s Parks and Recreation Committee.
Riki Carlson had asked the council for the skateboarding facility in a local park. The nearest bowls are too far away for him and his friends, and because Avondale is so flat, he pointed out that there is no area with the gradient required for momentum to do tricks on a skateboard.
Committee chairperson Cr Phil Raffills supports the proposal and would like to see them placed "in parks, where kids congregate".
The committeeis now developing a citywide strategy for skateboard bowls, and new ones are already planned for Victoria Park and the One Tree Hill Domain, he said.
