The injuries were inflicted when police ushered the man from the Masterton District Court and to a holding cell. A group of White House officials have arrived in Christchurch to plan US President Bill Clinton’s visit following APEC. The team of around 50 arrived in Christchurch over the weekend and will be visiting local attractions today before visiting Queenstown tomorrow. The Prime Minister Jenny Shipley says Mr Clinton and the Chinese president are likely to visit the city as part of a state visit for APEC. This, she says, will be a huge opportunity for Canterbury and for New Zealand to show off our economy, the things we produce, the scenery and a “terrific chance for us to perhaps forge trade relationships with both of our visitors both of whom have incredibly important economies.”
