Richard Tomlinson, the New Zealand born former British secret agent, is reportedly still on the run.
A Swiss Justice Ministry revealed on Thursday that Tomlinson has appealed Switzerland’s decision to bar him from the
country.
Tomlinson left Geneva in June for an undisclosed destination after being declared persona non grata there.
He was in Auckland last year, but left New Zealand after complaining of being “hounded” by SIS agents.
US press are reporting that the Swiss Government received Tomlinson’s appeal last Tuesday.
Last weekend kiwi publishers Howling At The Moon Publications announced it plans to publish a trilogy of books exposing
top secret information on Britain’s spy networks.
The publishing company’s spokesperson, Ian Wishart, has been in negotiations with the fugitive Tomlinson since
September.
Tomlinson has been on the run from British Intelligence officers since he allegedly published on the internet a list of
MI6 agents and agencies located around the world.
The website, posted up on the free-be United States of America based Geocities, was shut down within hours of
Tomlinson's revelations being shown to the world. MI6 then spent weeks trying to track down who had visited the website
and what they had done or intended to do with its secrets.
Tomlinson was jailed for six months in Britain in late 1997 after he showed the synopsis of a book on his career to an
Australian publisher.
During his four-year career as a British agent, Tomlinson served in Moscow and Bosnia. He was fired from the service in
1995.
Tomlinson was ordered to leave Switzerland while being questioned by local police in Geneva on suspicion of breaking an
injunction. A Geneva lawyer had earlier taken out a restraining order banning him from naming MI6 agents. Tomlinson
denies being behind the California Web site that produced the list.
