Last night’s televised 60 minutes programme on the KKK has prompted a Race Relations Conciliator’s call for widespread
condemnation of racism.
Conciliator, Doctor Rajen Prasad, says New Zealanders must actively condemn racism to prevent extremist groups
establishing a foothold in New Zealand.
The 60 Minutes programme looked at the Australian branches of the Ku Klux Klan. It examined links between white
supremacist supporters on both sides of the Tasman.
It noted groups, with neo-nazi ties, have been established in Auckland and Wellington.
The Race Relations Office has no knowledge of these organisations but calls for the public to speak out against racism
and extremist views. This, Mr Prasad says, is one way to keep groups like the KKK from getting a foothold in New
Zealand.
