Leased Flats a ‘Treasure’?
Manurewa MP George Hawkins is trying once again to get action taken to address the problems associated with rented flats
located at 10 Hill Rod, Manurewa. The flats are apparently owned by National Party list MP Arthur Anae and leased to
Housing New Zealand.
Local residents in Hillpark, Manurewa, have become concerned that rubbish and broken glass has consistently been left
strewn on the footpath and kerbside in Hill Road. The problem has been going on for a long time and little has been done
about it.
“It’s a filthy and unsightly mess. Rubbish, broken glass and used Treasures nappies are left to fester in the sun. This
represents a health hazard and local residents are suffering,” Said George Hawkins.
This has previously been brought to the attention of National list MP Arthur Anae (who is the owner of the flats) and
Housing New Zealand.
“Arthur Anae and Housing New Zealand should know that local residents in this community are suffering. Primary school
children walk past this mess to and from the local primary school. It is a health hazard that has to be addressed
urgently,” said George Hawkins.
The problems associated with the flats have been ongoing. The Manurewa Electorate Office staff will write to Arthur Anae
and the Select Committee responsible for Housing New Zealand (Social Services) to demand that action be taken.
“Property owners and landlords must take responsibility for the problems associated with their properties. They might
wash their hands of the problem but local residents aren’t so fortunate,” said George Hawkins.
