SLSNR weekend stats 17 - 18 February 2019

A total of six rescues took place. Orewa lifeguards responded to a mayday call that came through to Coastguard from a sinking boat 500m off Orewa. Two SLSNR IRBs launched with a Coastguard plane, Eagle, Kawau, and another available boat in the area to conduct a search. The sinking boat was found approximately 45 mins after the Coastguard plane got on scene. They were almost 5km off Red Beach. The passengers were picked up by the SLSNR IRBs and transferred to Kawau Rescue. Three patients were all wearing life jackets and only two wore wetsuits. All patients were taken in to Waiwera boat ramp by Kawau and then taken by the ambulance.

Sunday 17th February summary
Five rescues were performed with three rescues taking place at Piha beach. Lifeguards from Waipu and Mangawhai beach worked together to perform an in water search at midday for a missing competitor of the Jackman Classic Race. Patient was found safe on the shore after a half hour search. Mairangi beach lifeguards also took care of a 41 year old male suffering from a leg injury, patient required ambulance assistance.
