A brand-new community fun run last weekend raises money for a local Wanaka group working with disabilities.
The New World Lake Fun Run held on Sunday at Edgewater Resort brought together 62 runners of all ages to participate in
a 2.5km and 5km run along the Wanaka Millennium trail.
The event was a community initiative held as part of the Red Bull Defiance weekend.
“We were delighted with the turn out and it was great to see so many local kids and family’s come out to do the run.
They loved the Red Bull Defiance vibe and everyone got to run through the official finish line archway at Edgewater
Resort,” says Red Bull Defiance Race Director Bex Law.
Entry to the New World Lake Fun Run was by donation and monies raised are now going to a local Wanaka group Game On
Everyone. Spot prizes were provided by New World Wanaka and Racers Edge.
“Game On Everyone are a very worthy organisation who facilitate opportunities for individuals with disabilities to be
involved in the Wanaka community. We are pleased to pass on a donation of $250 to them,” says Law.
Claire O’Connell from Game On Everyone says the donation will boost funding for the groups Wanaka dance lessons.
“We are constantly working hard on finding ways to integrate our kids and young adults into the local community and
these funds will help us achieve that. The money will go towards making our regular dance classes more sustainable and
we want to thank everyone involved for the donation.”
