"Pillion passenger injured by falling rock - Marlborough"
A pillion passenger on a motorcycle has escaped serious injury after being hit by a rock on State Highway 1 near Weld Pass in Marlborough today.
Emergency services were notified of the incident just after midday.
Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing but at this stage it appears that the rock had fallen from a hill above the road.
The pillion passenger is reported to have suffered a broken leg.
The rider of the motorcycle was uninjured.
