"Name release - body found near Piha Beach"
Please attribute to Inspector Gerry Whitley, Relieving Area Commander, Waitematä West:
A formal identification has now been completed on the body found north of Piha Beach on Monday evening.
Police can now confirm the victim’s name as Episami Pasiaka, 16, of Avondale.
Episami was earlier reported missing from Whatipu Beach on December 29, 2018.
Police extend their sympathies to Episami’s family at this difficult time.
“We would also like to extend our appreciation to all those who were involved in the search for Episami,” says Inspector Gerry Whitley.
His death will be referred to the Coroner.
