Auckland City Mission is on the move
Friday 20 September
This weekend Auckland City
Mission is relocating – to make way for a complete rebuild
on its Hobson St site.
From Saturday 22 September the Mission will be operating from 23 Union St – just 700 metres from its current site.
Auckland City Missioner Chris Farrelly says all Mission services will continue in the temporary home – adding it will be an improvement for clients, staff and volunteers.
“We have been in Hobson St since 1980 and put simply, the collection of buildings are no longer fit for purpose as demand on our services continues to increase.”
The relocation also marks the public launch of Mission HomeGround – the redevelopment of the Hobson Street site and the next chapter of the Mission’s almost 100 year history of helping Aucklanders in desperate need.
“Mission HomeGround will bring the supportive housing model to New Zealand,” says the Missioner. “The model is widely recognised as a cost-efficient solution to chronic homelessness by providing permanent supportive housing with onsite wrap-around support services.”
