Hurunui: Deferral of Decision on Potential Shares Purchase

30 August 2018

Council Confirms Deferral of Decision on Potential Shares Purchase

The council has today agreed to defer a decision on the potential purchase of Hurunui Water Project (HWP) shares, Chair Councillor Dick Davison has confirmed.

Councillors have decided to put deliberations on hold until the outcome of HWP’s nutrient discharge application within the Waipara River red zone catchment is decided.

“We believe that in order for a fully informed decision to be made on the purchase of shares, the hearing currently before Environment Canterbury must have reached its conclusion.”

“The matter will no longer be left to lie on the table and will not be discussed at a council meeting until the outcome of the hearing is known.”

The hearing was suspended in May and is expected to resume in October this year.
