MEDIA RELEASE
Auckland non-profit cafe, The Waterview Coffee Project will celebrate its 5th birthday with a community party on Saturday 22 July.
The cafe, which is housed inside a refurbuished shipping container, was founded in 2013 in the backdrop of New Zealand's largest ever transport infrastructure project. Since then, the Waterview Tunnel has been completed, a new local school has been developed, hundreds of new homes built in the area and the cafe has grown to become an important hub for the local community and space for the local school, kindergarten and community groups to hold events and fundraisers.
"This was always about building a sense of community and filling a gap in Waterview for people to meet, mingle and drink good coffee," says Dean Lawton who is one of 4 local families who own and manage the cafe. “It’s great that we can celebrate this continued vision and success.”
The 5th birthday celebration will be held at the café at 29 Daventry Street, Waterview between 10am-2pm on 22 July. The daye will involve some face painting, magician and baked goodies from Waterview Primary School and the local kindergarten.
“This is a good opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years,” says Dean.
