"Windsurfers in trouble in Wellington Harbour"
A number of windsurfers are reported to be in trouble in the water in Wellington Harbour, following a windsurfing event at Petone this morning.
The Police Maritime Unit is responding, along with Coast Guard and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
It is unclear at this stage how many windsurfers are still in the water and Police would urgently like to hear from any event participants who have exited the water without reporting back to the event organisers.
We would also like to hear from anyone who has found equipment unattended on the shore.
If you can help, please contact Wellington Central Police on 04 381 2000.
