Winter festival of light 'Illume' returns
Coromandel Town’s winter festival of light ‘Illume’ returns in July to light up one of our coldest months.
The free, family-friendly festival will be held over the middle weekend of the school holidays, opening on Friday July
13 with a night market and live music and entertainment.
On Saturday night, July 14, is the spectacular street parade, street party and fireworks display.
Coromandel Town's mains street will be lined with food stalls and retailers will open their doors on both nights.
"This is the perfect time to come down to the bach or holiday home with the family over the school holidays, enjoy the
festivities and experience the Coromandel in a different season," says Thames-Coromandel Mayor Sandra Goudie.
"There's still plenty of fishing to be done, bush walking and just getting the kids out at the beach for some Coromandel
fresh air."
The festival, which started in 2014, is hosted by the Coromandel Town Business Association.
Our Council is a proud promoter of Illume, which attracts visitors to the region in what is traditionally our quieter
months, and provides opportunity for the community to have fun together.
Illume also celebrates the large pool of creative talent across the Coromandel, with local artists designing and
installing the lighting displays to decorate the street.
The number of visitors and economic benefits are expected to keep growing with this year’s event.
