Your money, your community, your future - have your say
Take part in local democracy by giving us feedback on our proposed Long Term Plan for the next 10 years. "Whether or not
you agree or disagree about any of our projects and expenses in the plan - let us know what you think," says our Mayor
Sandra Goudie.
Our Council today adopted the Consultation Document for the Long Term Plan 2018-2028 (LTP). Public consultation on the
LTP opens on Friday 16 March and closes on Monday 16 April.
The LTP sets out project and spending priorities for the next 10 years and includes information on our financial
position and the assumptions underlying the proposals.
The Consultation Document is your guide to the proposed LTP - it contains details including costs, timeframes and rating
implications.
It can be found on our LTP landing page on our website at www.tcdc.govt.nz/ltp along with supporting documentation such as our infrastructure and financial strategies. Hard copies will also be
available at our offices and libraries.
On our LTP web page you'll also find information on how to submit feedback.
We have a full schedule of meetings (below) where you can talk to elected members and staff about the LTP.
"It's important people take time to consider our proposals and let us know what they think and whether they support them
or not," says our Mayor Sandra Goudie.
"The feedback we receive will be discussed around the Council table by elected members so that we can fine tune the
LTP," our Mayor says.
"We need to hear from you so we know what your priorities are," says Mayor Sandra. "It's your money, your community,
your future."
People who wish to present in person to the Mayor and Councilors about their submission will have a chance at hearings
in early May.
The final plan will then be adopted at a Council meeting in June before it takes effect at the beginning of the 2018/19
financial year on 1 July.
For the first year of this LTP (2018/19) we are looking at an average 5.17% total rates increase across the district.
Over the 10 years of the plan, the average annual total rates increase is 2.85%. These averages hide a lot of variation
for each ratepayer, so to see how your rates compare for the first year of the LTP go to the rates comparison tool at www.tcdc.govt.nz/ltp.
In our LTP Consultation Document you'll find more information on:
• Proposals for a new sub-regional aquatic facility, sealing the Wentworth Valley Road in Whangamata, taking on
maintenance of 24 Council roads, and more.
• An overview of our Financial Strategy (how we pay for things), our Infrastructure Strategy (which plans for
infrastructure over the next 30 years), the process we've been through for developing the Long Term Plan and some of our
challenges in the near future.
• Descriptions of major projects in each Community Board area.
• Key investigation work we are undertaking in the next three years, including extending our water supply and
wastewater services in Hahei, Wharekaho, and a number of areas around Thames.
