Update - Flaxmere homicide
Hawke’s Bay Police are continuing to investigate the death of a man in Flaxmere late on Sunday 4 March.
A post mortem is being performed today and a formal identification process will take place once that is completed.
A scene examination continued overnight and Police expect to remain at the scene for the remainder of the day and into tonight.
Detective Senior Sergeant Marty James is continuing to appeal for people who have information which could assist the investigation to come forward.
“I am absolutely confident that there are people in the Flaxmere community who know who is responsible for this man’s death,” says Detective Senior Sergeant James.
“We want those people to step up, and get in touch with us at the earliest opportunity.
They can do that anonymously via Crimestoppers if need be.”
“And I have a message for the person or people responsible as well.
Police have a large investigation team working on this case and it is only a matter of time before we arrive on your doorstep.
It would be in your best interests to come to us before we come to you.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police on 06 831 0700.
If you wish to provide information anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Police will release a name for the deceased man once the formal identification is completed and all family members have been notified.
