Linwood Youth Set To Have Their Say at 20th Anniversary Linwood Youth Festival Experience
Young people from Linwood and surrounding suburbs will get the opportunity to have their say on what they want the new
Linwood/Woolston Pool to be like.
The Linwood Youth Festival Experience (LYFE), coming up on Saturday 17th March, will feature an engagement opportunity
where young people can share their dreams, aspirations, and design vision for the major aquatic project.
The new indoor swimming pool planned for the Linwood/Woolston community is in its very early stages, but funding has
been set aside by the Council to enable the pool to open in mid-2021. At LYFE young people are encouraged to get
involved and will be able to learn more about the project while sharing their ideas of what the facility should include.
Tayla Reece, the LYFE Event Coordinator for 2018, says “The fact that this community is finally getting their own pool
is so exciting in itself, and for local young people to also have this opportunity to actually shape what that could
look like it just fantastic. It’s sort of a big deal!”
“What makes it even more special is that the consultation will be run by youth for youth. LYFE are partnering with the
Christchurch Youth Council to engage with young people at the event and collate their views to then put forward to
Council.”
About LYFE
LYFE is going to be on Saturday 17th March, at a new time of 4:00pm – 8:00pm at Linwood Park. Featuring a ‘tropical’
theme, LYFE will be celebrating the culture, diversity, and talent of young people in the community. LYFE is organised
by local young people for local young people and the aim is for young people to be able to learn something, do
something, try something new, takeaway something, and have the chance to give back to their community.
Expect to see performances from local young people, a range of youth-focussed stalls from government and community
organisations, activities and opportunities for young people to try something new, and a diverse range of food vendors.
This is a free event for all ages so bring the whanau down and get amongst it!

Celebrating 20 years of LYFE
The first Festival was held in 1998 thanks to local youth wanting to share what was positive in Linwood with the support
of local organisations and the Linwood-Central-Heathcote Community Board. LYFE has developed into an event that develops
pride and builds strong, positive relationships between Linwood young people and community by profiling young people’s
achievements and providing opportunities to try new things. Still going strong, the four-hour event is planned with
young people involved in all aspects. The event is free to attend, with at least 5000 members of Linwood and surrounding
communities expected to attend, this popular event is set to be another huge hit for it’s 20th year.
