Water restrictions for residents connected to town supplies in Levin and Ōhau have been reduced from Level 3 to Level 2,
effective from Tuesday 13 February.
Horowhenua District Council announced the change in the water restrictions following recent rainfall in the District.
Water Services Engineer Albert Hoffman said Council has been closely monitoring flows in the Ōhau River, which is the
source of the town water supply for Levin andŌhau.
“The recent rainfall on the Tararua Ranges has helped to raise river flows from less than 1000 litres per second (l/s),
which triggered the Level 3 restrictions, to consistently over 1000l/s. As a result, Council can lift the water
restrictions to Level 2,” Mr Hoffman said.
“We would like to thank members of the community for their efforts to conserve water, and encourage everyone to keep up
the efforts under the Level 2 restrictions.”
Updates are available through Council customer service centres, website, Facebook page, and local news media.
Level Two water restrictions mean:
• Garden sprinklers and soak hoses must not be used at any time.
• Handheld hoses, watering cans or buckets can be used on your odd/even days at any time: houses with even street
numbers on even dates, and houses with odd street numbers on odd dates.
• Watering of public parks, gardens and reserves by bore water only.
• Hosing of paved areas is prohibited unless cleaning is required as a result of an accident, fire, health hazard or
other emergency. The use of a bucket filled directly from a tap is permitted at any time.
• Water must not be used to clean windows except by means of a bucket or watering can filled directly from a tap.
• Water must not be used for cleaning vehicles (cars, trucks, boats, jet skis, motorbikes and bicycles) except by means
of a bucket or watering can filled directly from a tap.
