Local Accountant and current Chairperson of the Waikato Pacific Business Network Inc, Meleane Burgess, has declared that she will be standing for the upcoming by-election for the vacant East Ward seat. The East Ward seat was made vacant with the passing of former Councillor Philip Yeung.
Meleane is of Pacific Island descent, a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand, practices as an Associate Chartered Accountant and has worked for prominent Accounting firms in Hamilton over the past 5 years. She is an alumni of the University of Waikato Management School where she completed a Management degree majoring in Accounting.
“I’m passionate about our growing city and believes it is important to ensure that with this fast-paced growth comes innovative, prudent planning and support for all aspects of community life which includes supporting local business through economic growth and realising ratepayer’s aspirations for a liveable city.” said Ms Burgess.
“My priorities for Hamilton are sensible and prudent financial management and accountability with rates. I am committed to the development and maintenance of community spaces.” said Ms Burgess
Meleane believes Council needs to better represent the diverse cultures and people that live and work in Hamilton.
Meleane is well connected to different community groups in Hamilton having lived in Hamilton for 20 years. “I am grateful to have this opportunity to use my knowledge and experience for the benefit of my community.
Hamilton is home for me and my family and I want the best for it and ensure a vibrant future.” Said Ms Burgess
