New mains pipes start arriving
The first load of pipes needed to build the new water main connection between Hastings and Havelock North have arrived.
This $10m project is a significant investment by Hastings District Council being one of the key water infrastructure projects which form part of Council’s wider water strategy.
This strategy focusses on ensuring the delivery of safe drinking water and effective sustainable water services to the community which is a top priority for Council.
An estimated 41 loads of pipes will arrive over the next three months with work on the installation of the 4.8 kilometre long main expected to start in February and take an estimated 10 months.
Each pipe is 12 metres long, with a diameter of half a metre and will be stored on the corner of Napier Road and Romanes Drive.
Once completed, this pipe will add to the existing infrastructure to deliver water from Hastings to Havelock North and will allow Brookvale Bore 3 to be closed.
“I am extremely pleased to see the progress and commitment staff are making in delivering the water service initiatives and the new infrastructure Council is investing in”, said Mayor Sandra Hazlehurst.
“The new water mains pipe is a significant step in the overall water infrastructure plan Council is delivering, as fast as possible, and it is great to see the progress being made. It demonstrates Council’s commitment to our community to deliver safe drinking water all the way to their taps. This is all about the health and safety of our people, as they are Council’s top priority”.
