"UPDATE: Crash at Maheno SH1"
Police are still at the scene of a serious crash which occurred this evening south of Oamaru.
A number of Police staff and several emergency service crews, including three helicopters attended the busy scene, just after 6pm at Moheno.
It appears two vehicles were involved in the crash, one vehicle contained six people and the other contained three.
The latest information from the scene is all nine occupants were taken to hospital with varying degrees of injuries.
At least one person had critical injuries, two people had serious injuries and two more had moderate injuries.
Another four people had moderate to minor injuries and all nine were taken to hospital.
One lane is open and traffic is flowing.
The Serious Crash Unit is attending and there may be road closures later tonight while the scene is examined.
