Water Management Options Being Presented to Arrow And Wakatipu Basin Communities
The second-round of Otago Regional Council (ORC) public consultation sessions on water management in the Arrow catchment
and Wakatipu basin begin on 7 December.
This is an opportunity for the community to view and provide feedback to ORC on a range of options to manage the amount
of water in the Arrow catchment and Wakatipu Basin aquifers. This will include seeking preferences on minimum flow
levels and water allocation limits in the area. Community feedback informs ORC decision-making on the option that will
progress to become a formal change to the Otago Water Plan.
“This is the exciting part of the process for us. The community told us what was important to them in our first round of
consultations in June. We’ve taken that feedback on-board and completed some further research. We’re now eager to find
out what the community thinks of the options we’re about to present,” said ORC Director Policy Planning & Resource Management Tanya Winter.
With rapid populations and visitor growth in this area, the demand placed on water continues to increase. Managing the
amount of water in the Arrow catchment and Wakatipu basin will ensure there is always enough water to meet the
environmental, cultural, economic and social needs of the community.
The consultation sessions begin in Arrowtown on 7 December and finish in Frankton on 8 December.
People can also have their say by providing their feedback online. For further information on the public consultation
sessions, please go to: www.orc.govt.nz/arrow.
Feedback on the options closes on 26 January 2018.
