"Road closures following fatal crash, Cambridge"
Police are in attendance at a fatal crash at the intersection of Shakespeare Street and Tirau Road, Cambridge.
Emergency services were called to the crash at approximately 12:25pm.
A car carrying a trailer has gone off the road and into the river.
Two people were in the vehicle.
One has died at the scene and another has been transported to Waikato Hospital with moderate injuries.
The road is expected to be closed for a few hours while the Serious Crash Unit investigates.
Diversions are in place at the intersections of SH1 and Tirau Road, Cook and Shakespeare Streets and Achilles and Dominion Avenues.
Police thank motorists in advance for their patience.
