Nominate an Upper Hutt environmental hero for the 2017 Beautiful Awards
Upper Hutt City Council is encouraging locals to celebrate environmental excellence by nominating themselves and/or their peers for the 2017 Beautiful Awards.
UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 28 JUL 2017— The Keep New Zealand Beautiful (KNZB), Beautiful Awards acknowledge kiwis who are leading the way with outstanding environmental and beautification work in their local communities.
In 2016, Upper Hutt City Council was nominated for a Beautiful Award for its Painted Environment city beautification mural projects. Council collaborated with young people and community groups to clean up spaces that had previously suffered from graffiti vandalism, and install community-inspired murals.
“There are so many Upper Hutt individuals, groups, and businesses leading environmental change, championing sustainability, and beautifying our city—which is why Council is encouraging them to either self-nominate or nominate their peers for a 2017 Beautiful Award,” says Upper Hutt Mayor, Wayne Guppy.”
Nominations are open until 6.00 pm on Friday 1 September. There are 17 official KNZB Beautiful Awards across five categories.
Individual awards include the Tidy Kiwi Award, Young Legend Award, and the Rudd Kleinpaste Award (for KNZB members).
Community awards include Community Environmental Initiative Award, Sustainable Schools Award, and Community Group Award.
Places awards include Best Loo Award, Best Street Award, and Kiwi’s Choice Award.
Towns & Cities awards include Beautiful Suburb, Beautiful Small Town (population 5,000 or less), Beautiful Large Town (population 5,000 – 20,000), and Beautiful City (population 20,000+).
Business awards include Most Innovative Packaging, Most Sustainable Project, Most Sustainable Small Business (less than 20 staff), and Most Sustainable Large Business (20+ staff).
A panel of judges will be made up of representatives from the KNZB board, education, council/government, community, and business sectors.
Winners will be announced at the award gala dinner at Craggy Range Winery, Hastings on Friday 13 October.
If you are, or know of, a ‘beautiful Upper Hutt’ environmental hero, nominate today and tell the country your beautiful story.
