Kerbside glass recycling change begins next week
From 31 July our recycling collection crews will only accept glass left in Council crates. The crate can be from any
district, it doesn’t have to be a TCDC crate.
This is because some of the non-Council crates people have used in the past are too heavy or difficult to pick up
without the crews hurting themselves or sometimes dropping the container with the result that the glass breaks.
If you need a Council crate, you can pick one up for $15 at any of our service centres; or if your old crate is damaged
and no longer usable, bring it in and we'll replace it for free.
Remember - you can leave recycling and rubbish in our official blue Council bags at any of our seven Refuse Transfer
Stations for free.

What can be recycled?
Only glass bottles and jars can be recycled, not old light bulbs, drinking glasses, glass dishes, window glass,
decorative glass objects etc.
All other recyclables go in your wheelie-bin. These include:
Plastics (numbers 1-7). Soft plastics, including plastic bags, are not recyclable in our jurisdiction.
Paper
Cardboard
Tin cans
NO GLASS, REFUSE ETC
Definitely no nappies, dead cats pizza boxes with cheesy crusts still stuck to them or other objects that are not in the
list above - which is also on the lid of your wheelie-bin.
Please give all your recyclables a quick clean before you put them in your crate or wheelie-bin so that the whole waste
stream is not contaminated and has to be thrown away.
Keep in mind that what you throw away, whether in the recycling stream or the rubbish stream, lingers on after it leaves
your property. Please think of ways to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Please do not overfill your glass crates, the glass should be bellow the rim.
