WOMAN WINCHED FROM RUGGED BUSH NEAR LION HUT
The BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was tasked by Police SAR this morning to assist in the search for a woman who had gone missing in dense bush near Lion Hut.
Lion Hut is located approximately 80km east of Rotorua in the Northern part of the Te Urewera National Park.
The woman had been missing for several days and NZ Police LandSAR had been combing the area for days on foot. Today was the second aerial search conducted by the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter.
Once the woman was located the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter utilised ‘The Southern Trust Rescue Winch’ to deploy a SAR member to assist with her extraction. Once winched aboard the helicopter, the 49 year old woman was airlifted to Whakatane Hospital in a comfortable condition.
Please contact Whakatane Police SAR for any further information.
