Regional council calls for spade aid to plant 5000 trees in four hours
Greater Wellington Regional Council is looking for spade aid this weekend – it wants the people of Kapiti to dig deep
for the future by planting 5000 trees in Queen Elizabeth Park in just four hours.
“We’d love the people of Kapiti community and others to help us meet the challenge by turning up with a spade, strong
footwear, warm clothing, a picnic and a can-do attitude so that we can get this done within the time limit,” says
Greater Wellington regional councillor Prue Lamason.
“It’s no easy task, but we need to get 5000 plants into the ground to maintain the momentum of our programme of
restoring Queen Elizabeth Park’s natural environment. It’s a long term project but challenges such as this provide a
shot in the arm because they show the instant progress that motivates people to get involved.
“It’s going to be quite a frenzy, and everyone is welcome to come along for as long as they can spare for a fun family
day out which will both benefit them and the environment,” says Cr Lamason.
