Great time out in Hastings as part of Winter Art Deco Weekend
Hawkes Bays Art Deco buses Veronica and Belle were called in to assist with transport from Napier Railway Station for several Art Deco events over the weekend. This was due to the ferocious weather closing the railway line which prevented the vintage railcar RM31 operated by Pahiatua Railcar Society making its way to Napier for the weekend festivities.
The buses transported guests to two Hastings events. The first was on Saturdayevening, Deco Dinner Express and Film where diners traveled to the Art Deco styled Focal Point Cinema to have a sumptuous dinner buffet and watch the classic film Top Hat with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. The other Hastings event on Sunday was The Hastings City Tea Dance Amongst the Art at was a huge success. The unique venue of the Hastings Community Art Centre with its Art Deco Architecture and wooden floors make it a dream for dancing. The mostly out of town guests enjoyed a high tea catered by historic Westerman’s Café and music by The Men in Black. A performance by the Deco Belle Dancers from Born to Move was a special treat. Both events were sold out.
The other event was the Ahuriri Dinner Express which also traveled on the Art Deco buses to the Art Deco Trust building in Napier for entrée catered by Orton Tailored Cuisine along with wine from Sileni. The group then traveled on to the Gin Trap for main and dessert courses. Then it was back on the buses to return through the City to the railway station. Everyone had a great time and were all superbly dressed in fine art deco style with furs a plenty.
