Before the Flood – Leonardo DeCaprio tackles a titanic mission
Ash Holwell and the Whangārei Branch of the Green Party of Aotearoa are hosting a special one-off screening of Before the Flood, the Leonardo DeCaprio movie on climate change that was released by National Geographic late last year.
Before the Flood, explores the dramatic changes occurring around the world due to climate change. What’s more, this movie provides a
riveting account of what we as individuals and as a society can take to prevent a catastrophic disruption of life on our
planet due to climate change.
“Time is not a luxury we have,” says DiCaprio. “Our natural world is quickly nearing unprecedented, irreversible and
catastrophic change that threatens the very future of humankind. I didn’t want the film to scare people, or present them
with statistics and facts that they already know, but to focus on what can and must be done immediately so that we can
leave our planet a liveable home for future generations. We are quickly running out of time.”
Before the Flood, follows DiCaprio as he travels to five continents and the Arctic speaking to scientists, world
leaders, activists and local residents to gain a deeper understanding of this complex issue and investigate concrete
solutions.
"The reaction to Trump's treatment of The Paris Agreement has clearly demonstrated that the world clearly believes that
climate change is the issue of our times, and this movie couldn't be timelier with the decision Whangārei will soon make
on its own future in September," says Ash Holwell.
