Go Beyond the Page with Wellington region libraries this school holidays
Get prepared for a festival of literary proportions for children and youth across the Wellington region this school holidays.
UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 30 JUN 2017—Beyond the Page Children & Youth Literary Festival is bringing a packed programme of more than 100 free events to surprise, entertain, and inspire young people throughout the Wellington region during the winter school holidays.
Local children and youth are invited to journey through different aspects of storytelling, creating experiences for them to immerse themselves in the literary world, explore their own stories, and express their creativity.
Beyond the Page runs from 8 – 23 July and has been developed by Upper Hutt City, Hutt City, and Wellington City Libraries. They’ve come together with a combined goal to immerse young people (ages 4 – 18) throughout the region in the world of story. Events will be held across the three cities for the duration of the festival.
Events include Te Reo Māori storytelling presented by Te Reo Wainene o Tua, Rainbow Storytimes, Tales from the Royal New Zealand Ballet with Sir Jon Trimmer, as well as workshops on zines, creative writing, manga, and costuming. There’s something for all ages.
The festival kicks off with Pancakes & Poetry at Upper Hutt’s Expressions Whirinaki Arts and Entertainment Centre, Petone Community Library, and Wellington Central Library, on 8 July, at 11:00 am where children and youth can come along and get expressive with words in exchange for a pancake.
All events are free, but some require registration. For more information and a full programme of events, go to www.beyondthepage.nz.
