The heavy rain has caused a lot of surface flooding on some roads around the Coromandel and there are reports of debris on roads, particularly from a slip at Ruamahunga Bay on SH25 (Thames Coast Road), but no roads are reported to have been closed.
There is a lot of surface water on the Coast Rd at Whakatete Bay, where gravel from driveways has also washed on to the road.
We're advising drivers to be very cautious wherever they are driving on the Coromandel and to expect debris or water on roads around any corner.
Metservice is forecasting the rain to ease later this morning.
Keep an eye on the NZ Transport Agency website for updates on state highway conditions.
