Target achieved two days running - keep it up Auckland!
Aucklanders continued to respond to calls for reduced water use yesterday with total consumption falling to 382 million
litres. This was comfortably within the target range of 400 million litres or less. Well done everyone!
Watercare would like to thank the community and remind everyone to keep going, especially as the weather clears. It’s
going to take many weeks for silt in the Hunua dams to settle. Until then, the region’s largest water treatment plant,
based in Ardmore, remains under pressure. Water clarity at Ardmore is still 100 times worse than it should be.
Everyone is asked to reduce their water use by 20 litres per day until the end of March and avoid non-essential
activities such as car washing or water blasting.
There are many waterwise tips on the company website, they include not letting the tap run when you brush your teeth and
peeling vegetables in a bowl, rather than letting the tap run.
If significant savings are not made, then Watercare may be forced to release partially-treated water into the system. In
this instance, a boil water notice would then be issued.
The water savings apply to everyone living in homes as far north as Waiwera and as far south as Pukekohe.
