"Dunedin Police arrest two men on firearms charges"
Dunedin Police have arrested a 56 year old man and 57 year old man on firearms charges.
The arrests are as a result of searches of a vehicle and an address on the outskirts of Dunedin on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
The searches were conducted in relation to the enquiry into the burglary of a Dunedin address on 25 October where a large number of firearms and ammunition were stolen.
Both men have been charged with unlawful possession of a pistol, three charges of unlawful possession of military style firearms and one charge of receiving stolen firearms.
Police also recovered a large amount of ammunition.
Further charges are likely.
Both men live out of the Dunedin area and are affiliated to gangs.
Police believe the firearms had been stolen to be sold on to the criminal fraternity.
Enquiries into the burglary are ongoing and Police encourage anyone who may have any information to share in relation to the matter to contact Dunedin Police on 03 471 4800.
