Motorway closures for Auckland Marathon
The annual Auckland Marathon is taking place this weekend and will have an impact on the Northern Motorway and Auckland Harbour Bridge.
The NZ Transport Agency says one lane of the Northern Motorway will be closed southbound from Esmonde Rd Interchange, along with the Onewa Rd southbound on-ramp to the motorway, including the bus-only lane. The closures are effective between 4am and 11am on Sunday morning, 30 October.
South of Onewa Rd the two left southbound motorway lanes will be closed as runners use the southbound clip-on lanes over the Harbour Bridge and exit at Shelly Beach Rd off-ramp. The off-ramp will be closed to all traffic. Runners will then loop around to use Curran St to run beneath the bridge, meaning the Curran St on-ramp will be closed to all traffic.
The Fanshawe St motorway off-ramp (citybound) will also be closed from 2am until 3pm for the duration of the event.
The Northern Busway Bus Only lanes will be closed from Constellation Drive to Onewa interchange, with runners entering the Busway at Smales Farm.
“We will aim to have the lanes re-opened as soon as we can to minimise the impact on traffic but we do encourage people to allow extra time for their journeys on Sunday and avoid the Harbour Bridge if you can during the marathon,” says the Transport Agency’s Auckland Highway Manager Brett Gliddon.
“If you are on the road at the same time as marathon participants please take extra care, and keep your eyes on the road.”
