Take your seat for the Sweeney Todd blood drive
September 2, 2016- You won’t get baked in a pie, but there will be blood-letting. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street has partnered with New Zealand Blood Service for its Missing Type campaign, by hosting a blood drive at The Civic in Auckland on Wednesday 7 September.
Sweeney Todd cast member and regular donor Helen Medlyn will lead the charge, being the first donor of the day.
In August New Zealand Blood Service set the ambitious goal of attracting 10,000 first-time blood donors and Sweeney Todd producers decided to get behind the cause as the production gears up for opening night on 17 September at The Civic.
Director Stuart Maunder says that it’s great to be able to support New Zealand Blood Service.
“Sweeney Todd is a gloriously bloody production, so when we heard that the Service was running a campaign for new donors at the same time we were preparing to put Sweeney Todd on stage, we were immediately keen to get on board.”
The Blood Service’s national manager of marketing and communications, Asuka Burge, is equally as enthusiastic about the partnership. “As part of the Missing Type campaign we aim to encourage 10,000 Kiwis to become first-time blood donors. We still have work to do to reach this figure and having the support of the Sweeney Todd cast and crew is fantastic. ”
The blood drive runs at The Civic from 9am-3pm on Wednesday 7 September. Appointments can be booked for this blood drive online or by calling 0800 GIVE BLOOD.
