Settled weather with a mid-week change

Settled weather with a mid-week change

Monday 13 June 2016

The cold front that moved up the country over the weekend has now moved to the north of New Zealand, allowing a ridge of high pressure to take its place. This will bring sunny skies to many, though there will still be some patchy cloud for western areas, with the odd shower. The settled weather will be interrupted mid-week by another cold front moving up the South Island on Wednesday, and across the North Island overnight and into Thursday morning.

“Northwesterly winds will strengthen ahead of the front on Tuesday for the lower South Island, andon Wednesday for the lower North Island,” said MetService Meteorologist Claire Flynn. “The front will then bring a period of rain to most places in the South Island on Wednesday, though it will weaken as it moves north. The North Island will see occasional showers on Wednesday night orThursday morning, but it should remain dry for eastern parts. Behind the front, another ridge of high pressure settles in to end the week.”

Perfect flag flying weather is expected in Wellington on Tuesday evening for the launch of Matariki flags 2016. Further north, those in Hamilton for the Chiefs vs. Wales rugby game should stay dry, though there may be some cloud around. If you are attending Fieldays at Mystery Creek, any showers around on Thursday morning should dry up early on, then there may be the odd shower around on Friday and Saturday as well due to a southwesterly breeze.
