Police Assaulted in Cheviot
Sunday afternoon, 20th March 2016, two Police officers stopped three vehicles on State Highway 1 in Cheviot.
There were nine occupants in these vehicles and they immediately became aggressive towards the Police staff.
Three occupants got out of their vehicle and immediately started assaulting Police staff.
As a result, one Police Officer has received minor facial injuries.
The Cheviot Volunteer Fire Brigade responded to support Police and then assisted in keeping the situation calm until further Police staff arrived from Culverden, Rangiora and Christchurch.
Police would like to thank the Cheviot Volunteer Fire Brigade for their prompt service and support.
The local community can be proud of the services working together in rural areas to keep the community safe.
This is an example of the potential risks of Policing in rural areas but also an example of the excellent work rural staff do to resolve dangerous situations.
Three males have been arrested for a variety of charges and will appear in the Christchurch District Court.
