Chamber of Commerce congratulates Phoenix

Wellingtonians should be delighted that the Phoenix have been able to agree on a licence extension that will keep the football club in the A-League for up to 10 years, says Wellington Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive, John Milford.

“This is great news, and the club is to be congratulated for the work it’s done to retain its place.

“The Phoenix are now part of the events tapestry of the city, and they help keep us on the map week after week.

“Testimony to their popularity is that during their campaign to stay in the A-League they received some great support from other clubs and fans. That’s Aussies supporting Kiwis, and it doesn’t happen too often. The club should take that as a great compliment, as should the city.

“Now it’s up to the public to support the team. The three-year extensions are contingent on improved broadcast rights, and one way of helping that to happen is to get the stadium as full as possible.”
