Great Response to Whanganui Community Awards
With 98 entries received for this year’s Trustpower Energy Direct Whanganui District Community Awards, organisers are stoked to be celebrating so many voluntary organisations.
The Community Awards recognise and reward voluntary groups for the outstanding contribution they make to the local community and are run in partnership by Trustpower, Energy Direct and the Wanganui District Council.
Trustpower Community Relations Representative Jess Somerville says the awards help to recognise the people who put their hearts and souls into helping out.
“We have been overwhelmed by the level of support for the awards this year with entries coming in from right across the community. On top of this though the variety of projects and groups acknowledged speaks volumes about what a caring community this is. We are really looking forward to the awards night when we get all these people into the same room; it’s bursting with aroha”, says Somerville.
The Awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Education and Child/Youth Development. The category winners receive $500 and runners-up receive $250.
The Supreme Award winner of the Trustpower Energy Direct Whanganui District Community Awards will take home $1,500, a trophy, framed certificate and an all-expenses paid trip to the Trustpower National Community Awards. The National’s will be held in the Dunedin region in March 2016.
The results will be announced and presented at a function at the War Memorial Centre on Monday 12 October, to which all entered organisations as well as those that entered groups will be invited.
