Police seek witnesses to fatal crash
Police investigating a fatal crash in Piarere which claimed the life of a teenager are trying to identify one or more drivers who may have useful witness information.
The crash occurred at approximately 8.25pm on Friday, 11 September on SH1 between SH29 and Tirau.
A 2006 silver Ssangyong Rexon vehicle containing seven people lost control on the southbound lane and overturned.
This resulted in the death of 16-year-old Robert Mark Butland from Auckland.
Enquiries by police indicate that one or more vehicles travelling in the same direction may have been overtaken by the Ssangyong immediately prior to the crash.
Police are yet to speak to the drivers of these vehicles and are urging them to come forward.
These drivers, or anyone else with information that might assist this investigation are asked to contact Senior Constable Steve Maddren at Tokoroa Police on 07 885 0100.
