Update regarding man found in Waikato River
Hamilton Police are investigating the circumstances of how a man’s body came to be in the Waikato River before it was recovered recently.
Detective Senior Sergeant Ross Patterson of the Hamilton CIB said the body of 38-year-old Phillip Mark Morris was recovered from the Waikato River on Thursday the 3rd of September.
“Initial inquiries, including the results of a post-mortem examination led us to believe there were no suspicious circumstances in relation to Mr Morris’ death however we said at the time the investigation would continue into how he came to be in the river.
At this time the circumstances surrounding Mr Morris’ going into the Waikato River is ‘unexplained’ therefore we have engaged the services of the Police Special Search Group whom will be searching the river’s edge today while detectives conduct routine inquiries.
“To that end we are currently in the formative stages of the inquiry, and we ask anyone who may have information as to what may have happened to Mr Morris to contact the Operation Shuttle team at the Hamilton Police station on 07 858 6200”
