Search continues for missing man as Police hold grave fears for him
The search for 74 year-old William Davies continues today and with no sign of Mr Davies since Wednesday morning, Police
now hold grave concerns for him.
Mr Davies, who suffers from a condition called PSP, hasn’t been seen since he left his Albany care home at around 10am
on Wednesday morning.
Police Search and Rescue squads have resumed the search this morning and are combing parks across the North Shore and
central Auckland.
Specialist Search and Rescue dogs have been deployed and are currently in the Bass Road, Kinleith Way area of Albany.
Mr Davies condition effects his mobility, balance and ability to think clearly.
By yesterday he will have been immobile and very unwell.
He has now missed a number of doses of medication and Police hold grave concerns for his health.
The ground and air search continued until nightfall on Thursday and regular enquiries with hospitals have continued, but
unfortunately there has been no sign of Mr Davies.
Checks of CCTV across the wider area are continuing.
“Mr Davies has quite possibly spent two nights now in terrible weather.
He may have fallen or tripped and is lying somewhere in the cold.
It is possible that a kind-hearted person has taken him in but without his medication his condition will have
deteriorated to the point where he needs urgent medical attention.
“Our search locations cover quite a large area.
Mr Davies has previously coached a football team and has spoken about the places they used to play.
Because of this he may have attempted to go back to those locations and we’ve got search and rescue teams doing further
searches of parks in the Royal Oak area, Auckland Domain and Pt Chevalier.
“Mr Davies has no money or cellphone with him.
The situation is very grim and his family are obviously very worried.
We are offering them every support and ask that if anyone has seen Mr Davies or a person who looks like him, please call
us” says Inspector Shanan Gray, Area Commander, North Shore Police.
Mr Davies was wearing;
-Blue polar fleece top
-Dark trackpants
-A black shirt
-Sandals with no socks
