"Police warn elderly residents not to let strangers into their homes"
Police are warning the public, particularly elderly residents to be very careful about who they let in to their homes.
It comes as Police have arrested a 35-year-old woman who allegedly targeted a number of elderly people in the Manurewa
area, convincing them to let her into their homes by pretending to need help.
Items, such as wallets and other valuables were then stolen.
In one incident it is also alleged that a victim was pushed over.
She is currently facing ten charges, including six charges of burglary, and will next appear in the Manukau District
Court on 30 September 2015.
Counties Manukau Central Area Prevention Manager Inspector Bruce O’Brien says criminal behaviour that targets vulnerable
members of the community is disgusting and won't be tolerated by Police.
“I urge residents, not to let people into their homes that they do not know and if you feel threatened or scared in
anyway then please call 111 immediately.
Also, never disclose your pin numbers to anyone.”
“The community can help by reporting any suspicious behaviour to Police, even if it seems minor, such as a person or
vehicle you have not seen in the area before.
By working together, we can keep those most vulnerable in our communities safe.”
Police want to hear from anyone who may have been a victim of this type of crime so that they can respond and help
prevent it from happening to others.
