Sky Tower celebrates 18th birthday with colourful light display
SKYCITY Auckland is celebrating the Sky Tower’s 18th birthday tonight with a colourful light display.
Stretching 328 metres high, the Sky Tower has been an iconic feature of the Auckland landscape since 1997.
At the time, the Sky Tower was an engineering feat, primarily constructed from 15,000 cubic metres of concrete, 2,000 tonnes of reinforcing steel and 260 panes of glass, with aluminium panels giving off an iridescent sheen.
The Sky Tower is New Zealand’s tallest man-made structure and SKYCITY frequently lights the Sky Tower to show support for a number of organisations and special events.
SKYCITY often lights the Tower for charities or community initiatives that we support financially, or to mark national holidays, milestones or other celebrations.
