World Masters Games 2017 announces SKYCITY as official partner

Iconic Auckland entertainment centre, SKYCITY, has been announced as the Official Hotel and Fine Dining Partner for World Masters Games 2017.

The announcement was made by the World Masters Games 2017 Organising Committee at an event today in SKYCITY’s Sky Tower at which the 45 competition venues were revealed for the first time.

Chief Executive of World Masters Games 2017, Jennah Wootten, says the announcement of SKYCITY as a strategic partner is a major and significant milestone for the global event.

“World Masters Games 2017 is delighted to have a world class hotel and fine dining partner like SKYCITY on board. It is a significant partnership that will help underpin the unique athlete experience we are striving for.

“In terms of impact, more than 13,000 international participants will converge on Auckland for the 10-day sports festival. These visitors will be staying, sightseeing and socializing during their time in the city. Providing a range of accommodation and entertainment options for our inbound visitors is top of mind in the creation of any successful event,” she says.

SKYCITY Auckland General Manager, John Mortensen, says SKYCITY is proud to support yet another world-class event in New Zealand’s largest city.

“Along with our convention centre, casino, and of course the Sky Tower, SKYCITY is the hub of entertainment in Auckland and we are looking forward to hosting these athletes over this amazing event.”

“The World Masters Games will be a huge event for Auckland, and we are happy to play our part and contribute our two award-winning hotels and stable of eateries along Federal Street,” says Mr Mortensen.

Ms Wootten says the Games will be the largest event to be held in New Zealand in the next decade. Travellers staying in Auckland for the event are expected to deliver more than 250,000 visitor nights and $36 million GDP to the city.

The announcement of SKYCITY as a strategic partner for World Masters Games 2017 follows the announcement in March 2014 of leading Auckland property company, Barfoot & Thompson, as presenting partner.
