Police are now in a position to name the little boy missing since he was struck by a large wave at Mount Maunganui yesterday.
Jack Dixon turned five in September and his parents have spoken of his fondness for bikes, Lego and rugby.
Father Wayne Dixon and mother Karen Spargo have issued the following brief statement:
"We are shocked, upset, and lost at what has happened. We want to thank Police, lifeguards, and everyone who has done so much for us. We know there is so much community support, and we're truly touched. Jack will be missed by everyone who knew him. We just want him to come home."
This is the only statement Jack’s family wish to make at this stage. They have requested privacy and ask that all media enquiries are directed through the Police.
