Bracelet a lucky charm for Hokitika’s new multi-millionaire
A Hokitika woman is celebrating after winning $2 million with Lotto First Division on Saturday night, crediting her good fortune to her lucky charm bracelet.
The winner received the bracelet as a gift last Christmas and immediately decided she would use it as a lucky charm.
“As soon as I received the bracelet I bought a lucky charm to hang off it – I decided if I gave the bracelet a positive vibe from the outset it was bound to bring me luck,” explained the winner.
“I feel like I’ve had a bit more good luck in my life since then – and now I’ve won Lotto,” the winner laughed.
The winner is finding the fact that she has become an overnight multi-millionaire is taking some getting used to.
“The win hasn’t hit home yet, it still feels unreal. My husband and I have been really busy recently, so we’ve hardly had a moment to think about it even though we’ve known since the draw on Saturday.
“We finally got a chance to talk about it last night and we ended up staying up late dreaming about all the possibilities that are ahead of us now.”
The winner has a couple of ideas about how to spend her winnings.
“We’re definitely going to help out our kids – they’ve never asked for a thing, so it’s so special that we can give them a bit of a hand now.
“My lucky bracelet won’t be forgotten though. I’ll be hitting the shops tomorrow to buy a new charm to remind me every day just how lucky I am – and what it felt like to win Lotto!”
As for celebrating, a champagne toast is off the cards in favour of a far more Kiwi option.
“We’ll be eating homemade whitebait fritters tonight, that’s for sure.”
The winning ticket was sold at Fitzherbert Street Four Square in Hokitika.
Previous big wins in Hokitika include a $15 million Powerball jackpot won by a local couple through MyLotto in 2013 and an $11 million Powerball jackpot won on a ticket bought from Hokitika New World in 2002.
